| With Alfonso Soriano’s move to the outfield, Utley stands by himself at the top of the second basemen. He is miles apart from his peers, as there could be a 5-round gap between his draft position and the next best. Despite coming up short in his bid to break DiMaggio’s hit streak, Utley posted his second consecutive stellar season, finishing with a .309 BA, 32 HRs, 102 RBIs, and 15 SBs. The biggest difference between 2005 and 2006 was the runs (up from 93 to the NL-leading 131) thanks in no small part to NL MVP Ryan Howard. |
| His performance at the plate last year was anything but “Uggla.” In his rookie season, Uggla belted 27 HRs, with 90 RBIs and 105 runs. A nice surprise for the Marlins. |
| Last season, Cano made a name for himself, which is no small feat considering the fact that he was batting in an All-Star packed Yankee lineup. The kid can flat out hit (he was third in the AL with a .342 BA). His second half gave a glimpse of his power potential. |
| In his healthiest season in the past few years, Old Man Ray showed that he still had life in his bat. With Durham, though, injuries are always one swing away. |
| Roberts recovered well from elbow surgery. He ranked near the top of the position in steals, with 36 bags swiped. |
